Commission for :icondoculean:

continued from part 1

On the flip side, Filly twilight was simple and easy (and adorable imo). I really enjoyed positioning her to look at Celestia with her big gleaming eyes.
:icondoculean: also requested that they be put on a base which I fashioned into a pillow. The pillow is 8" in diameter and made entirely out of clay wrapped around a cardboard base and custom made to fit Celestia n' Twi into position on it.
Initially they were to be removable from the pillow revealing Celestia's cutie mark on the pillow. But after curing both Celestia n' Twilight serparately, I thought they might be abit too fragile to survive shipping. So I talked with Doculean and he agreed they be glued to the base. I do have pics of Celestia, twilight and the base separated, perhaps later I'll upload them, or add them onto my 'soon to be made' tumblr.

Anyway enjoy!

Hah ^^; ebay auctions are by far the 2nd most asked question I've been asked (the first being "what do I make this out of"). The answer is not at the moment. But I'll let you know that I'm planning on doing a 'pairing' (or shipping if you prefer) set of sculptures, so I'll keep that in mind~

This turned out more beautifully than I'd imagined (in all views), both for the gorgeous level of detail on each pony and also how wonderfully you posed them together. Their bodies are great and lie perfectly together, but it's the detail on their adoring expression that shines — also lining up to perfectly express the warm, happy and safe feelings they share. Even though the situation is wide open to interpretation*, the mood seems very innocent to me, especially since Celestia is a motherly figure to Twilight Sparkle. Plus there's a playful air at work here too.

Your take on Celestia's eyelash-lines came out great, since I know it would be tough/impossible to put detailed lashes on her yet including the bottom dark line could end up making her look tired. I also love Celestia's giant cushion (and that's not a euphemism!).

The staging for the pictures is terrific. Intentionally or not, the slightly blurry backdrop looks like fine draperies, and the overall effect is that they're surrounded by clouds. Though looking at your WIP for a sense of scale makes the work even more impressive.

*And I'm sure that the fanfic writers are feeling very inspired after seeing this.

Yes~ part of the problem with working with the method that I use is lining them up so they face each other correctly. Initially these 2 were separate from each other and could be placed on the pillow (or any other flat surface) but would still look at each other just as you see them. So I had to take extra special care to make sure their faces lined up when they were curing, otherwise it would look super awkward.

The decision to not do Celestia's full eyelashes was a difficult one. I had wanted to every thing (but top and bottom as well as the hairs that came off) but I thought she might look too upset or angry if I did it. So I kept it simple to give her a serene look. Heck you might even say she just removed her make up or something for the night.

Thank you so much~ I really enjoy it when people notice the little things people had to put into their designs~ :D

I'm always happy to spend time studying (by which I mean enjoying) expressive pieces of any mood. Here it happens to be quite charming. The WIP really helped me visualize the scale much better and understand the eyelashes much better. Though I really like the idea of Celestia carefully putting on her makeup every day just before sunrise. When Twilight Sparkle finds out she'll ask Rarity to teach her how to do it too. :)
